This demonstration assumes that you have previously launched and accessed a NITRC-CE instance using the AWS Marketplace or a Public AMI. If you have not and need help doing this, please watch the videos on Launching a NITRC-CE Instance and Starting a VNC Session. On the AWS home page, go to "My Account/Console" and select "AWS Management Console." You will be prompted to log in if you have not already. Select "EC2" under "Compute & Networking." Now, you see your EC2 Dashboard. Click the "Instances" link in the navigation menu. The instance you created previously should be listed with the instance Name you provided. Most likely the instance is not running. To start the instance, right click on it and select "Start." It may take a few minutes to get the instance running and and to pass the status checks, so please be patient. When the instance is running and the status checks have passed, make sure the box in front of this instance is checked. Look at the details for the instance shown below. On the "Description" tab, scroll down to the "Public DNS" line and copy that address. This Public DNS is going to change every time the instance is restarted. Enter this address in your browser. Log in with the account that you created when you first accessed this NITRC-CE instance. Start a VNC session and then connect to it. Allow the virtual computer to run on your computer, and re-enter your password. [NITRC-CE starting in VNC Viewer.] You are ready to start using the NITRC Computational Environment. Please watch the video on Using NITRC-CE for demonstrations on running applications here. And remember, you only pay while an instance is running, so when you are finished using NITRC-CE, you want to stop your instance. Go back to your EC2 Dashboard. Right click on "running" and select "Stop" to shutdown the instance or "Terminate" to shutdown the instance and delete the attached storage volume. Any questions, e-mail nitrcinfo@nitrc.org.
